Multi User Tally – ERP vs Server Editions

Tally is the predominant system being used by Chartered Accountants and Companies when it comes to an affordable ERP and Accounting software today. Over the years a large trained pool of staff has been using the same hence making a shift to other software’s difficult and time-consuming.

GST and other tax/company compliance burdens have increased over a period of time and hence multi-user environments have become a norm rather than the exception.

Tally has two software’s for multi-user environments. On one side is the earlier released Tally.9 ERP and the new one is Tally 9 Server.

ePrompto did extensive testing of the two software’s and the effect on productivity of companies and CA.

Our tests included:

1)   Increasing RAM and CPU for Tally.9 ERP for faster performance and results.

2)   Having staff on faster Wi-Fi or faster LAN to access the server.

3)   Interacting with multiple Tally ASP (Associate Partners)and Tally itself.

Our Conclusion:

1)   Tally.9 ERP software, even for multi-user license, is designed to execute sequentially for each query by a user. Hence it queues up and the latter users face a delay.

2)   Tally has come up with an “Experience” module in Excel file, where ASP will perform various tasks and show the comparisons in speed. Tally 9 Server is definitely faster in these comparisons.

3)   Increasing Server capacity, RAM, CPU is of no use for multi-user environments experiencing delays in response.

4)   The productivity increase is high enough to pay for the new software.

5)   Tally ASP will also help in deployment and migration of data.

6)   Pricing is fixed for companies and professional CA’s, the latter being much cheaper.

7)   In Tally Server 9, all the activity of the users (entries viewed, printed, exported and edited) will be available in a dashboard.

8)   The count of currently logged-in users will be available in real-time.

Recommendation:

Move to Tally 9 Server if you have more than 6 concurrent users for the benefit will far outweigh the cost.
